Soaps listed here are what we recommend for teen or oily skin problems.  They are listed in the approximate order in which we would recommend them based on personal experience, and customer feedback & success with their use.  Every person's skin is different however, so what we recommend highest on the list may not work as well for YOU as something lower on the list. 

We began making handmade soaps to alleviate our own skin troubles and the best first step for us was reading and learning to decipher pure ingredients and pure ingredients labeling. Using pure vegetable oil (non animal fat) soaps, minus chemicals and preservatives made a huge improvement in our overall skincare...or our skin REACTION to what we used ON our skin!

Oily skin is often part of a vicious cycle of over-cleansing that leads to yet more oil production--your skin's response to over-stimulating oil glands by harsh scrubbing or the using harsh, oil-stripping cleansers. GENTLE cleaning that re-moisturizes is imperative for oily or break-out skin!  If you dry-out your skin, it'll crank-up oil production to compensate! Handmade soap's naturally-retained glycerin is IDEAL for re-moisturizing without adding un-needed oil or irritating pore-cloggers!  We also use essential oils in many of our soaps such as tea tree oil, lavender, and citruses for their remarkable natural anti-bacterial properties.  Some of our listed soaps contain clay that helps absorb excess oil yet they are balanced with natural moisture replenishment such as aloe vera. Unscented soap may be what works best for you; if so,  we recommend our Bar None or Soothe & Smooth.

Skin condition is often a barometer of what is going on INSIDE of you, whether it's raging teen hormones, menstrual cycle hormone fluctuations, stress, diet, lack of rest or proper cleansing, toxins, or disease.  So treating problem-skin with only what you apply to it externally may not eliminate all of your skin problems.  Examine your diet and exercise regimes.  Daily exercise helps keep all of your systems functioning at top form and better able to eliminate toxins that can appear via skin break-outs.  Read food labels and eliminate as many processed foods as possible; eat food that is as close-to-as-found-in-nature as possible.  Eliminate or cut down on dairy, red meat, sugar, caffeine, preservatives and artificial colors.  Boost your fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and drink LOTS of water to keep yourself flushed out.  You'll be amazed at the change you can begin to see in your skin after a week or so!  Be sure to discuss any concerns you have about your skin, nutrition, or general health with your physician.  

Side note: A wonderful detoxifying juice we personally use regularly is noni juice--made from morinda citrifolia (noni fruit), grown in Tahiti.  It's healthful and detoxifying effects overall, especially on the skin are remarkable!  It is available from several distributors under different names.  We've also found it at Costco on the vitamin aisle. If you suffer skin problems, are at your wits end trying to control them, and would like to be free of antibiotics and other skin medications, consult your doctor re: trying a natural path to healthy skin that involves not only what you use ON your skin, but what you put INTO it!

To assist in GENTLE cleansing we also recommend our hand-crocheted, 100% cotton wash clothes...SO kind to problem skin!  Be sure to rinse your washcloth thoroughly after each use and hang to air-dry.  Wash at least twice a week to remove dead skin cells and bacteria!
